Dwight Howard a véritablement fait claquer les records cette nuit face aux Bobcats. Tout d’abord ses 45 points, record personnel tout comme son 56 d’efficacité, ses 16 tirs réussis et ses 23 tirs à 2-pts tentés. Mais il faut croire que Superman aime Charlotte puisque ses 45 points sont également le record d’un joueur du Magic face aux Bobcats.
Mais avec 19 pts et 8 contres, il établit un record NBA depuis que les contres sont comptabilisés dans les statistiques, c’est à dire depuis la saison 1973-1974. Jamais personne n’avait cumulé aussi haut en scoring, rebonds et contres selon le cabinet spécialisé Elias Sport Bureau.
Enfin, le Magic réussit en partie grâce aux contres de son pivot : 133 victoires – 141 défaites lorsqu’il place moins de 3 cakes, 70-36 lorsqu’il en place plus de 3 !
Comme on s’y attendait depuis quelques jours, la saison de Tracy McGrady est terminée. Le joueur des Rockets va bel et bien se faire opérer de sa microfracture au genou gauche selon ESPN. On lui souhaite de bien se remettre mais ce n’est jamais évident.
Un coup dur pour Houston, même si T-Mac n’était pas au mieux de sa forme depuis le début de saison. Désormais, en vue des play-off, deux solutions s’offrent à eux. Recruter un remplaçant avant jeudi soir (le retour de la rumeur Vince Carter) ou bien faire avec les moyens du bord. Par exemple Ron Artest en arrière avec Shane Battier et Luis Scola aux ailes. Défensivement, en plus, ça se tient.
32 pts, 10 rebonds cette nuit pour Nate Robinson face aux Spurs, c’est un peu moins bien que ses 33 pts, 15 pds, 9 rbds et 5 interceptions lors de la défaite des Knicks face aux Clippers la semaine dernière. Une performance rare car le dernier à avoir approché tous ces chiffres en marquant plus de 30 pts n’est autre que Magic Johnson : 33 pts, 17 pds, 15 rbds et 6 interception le 29 mars 1981 contre Denver !
Manu Ginobili était rentré à San Antonio et n’avait pas fait le déplacement à New York pour jouer face aux Knicks cette nuit. Un problème de cheville assez important pour inquiéter Gregg Popovich et amener El Magnifico à passer des examens complémentaire. Il s’agit de la cheville droite, alors que c’est une opération de la cheville gauche qui l’avait contraint à manquer les 12 premiers matches de la saison.
Plusieurs retours sur les parquets après blessure cette nuit. Tout d’abord Andrei Kirilenko qui joue 17 minutes lors de la victoire du Jazz 117-99 face aux Grizzlies. Le jour de ses 28 ans, il en profite pour marquer 14 pts à 5/6 aux shoots. “Je suis très fatigué, j’avais du mal à respirer mais je n’avais pas mal à ma cheville et je suis triplement heureux : j’effectue mon retour, nous gagnons, et c’est mon anniversaire” commente-t-il.
Le Bobcat Gerald Wallace a de son côté effectué son retour après la faute d’Andrew Bynum lui ayant coûté des côtes cassées et un pneumothorax avec une défaite face au Magic. Wallace a retrouvé son poste de titulaire pour jouer 38 minutes et marquer 8 pts, prendre 4 rbds et délivrer 4 pds. Raja Bell a également retrouvé les parquets pour Charlotte.
Enfin, une nouvelle mascotte pour le Thunder : un bison nommé Rumble. Qu’il est beau !!
