Qui de Victor Wembanyama ou Chet Holmgren sera élu Rookie Of The Year ? C’est la question que tout le monde se pose. Sauf qu’ils ne sont pas les seuls rookies à briller. À Detroit, Ausar Thompson est le seul rookie en “double-double”, et le jumeau d’Amen est déjà l’un des meilleurs contreurs de la NBA.
Du côté de Charlotte, c’est Brandon Miller qui monte en puissance, et cette nuit, face aux Knicks, le numéro 2 de la Draft a signé son meilleur match avec 29 points à 10 sur 15 aux tirs, dont 5 sur 7 à 3-points.
“Mes coéquipiers m’ont mis dans les bonnes positions, m’ont encouragé à prendre des tirs à 3-points et à le faire avec confiance, de ne pas hésiter à prendre des tirs comme ça dans ce genre de match. Mes coéquipiers font grandir ma confiance”, a-t-il déclaré. “Le plus important, c’est d’apprendre, d’être une éponge à ce niveau. Puisque je suis rookie, forcément, j’écoute les vétérans, c’est un élément clé quand je suis sur le terrain avec eux.”
Un rookie très mature
Déjà ravi de pouvoir compter sur Miles Bridges sur les postes 3/4, Steve Clifford est très satisfait des premiers pas de Brandon Miller en NBA. Et notamment de sa maturité.
“Il se comporte comme il faut – il bosse, il s’entraîne, il est très intelligent, il assimile rapidement les choses, il a une excellente attitude” énumère le coach. “Il a également un sens naturel du jeu. Il sait où le ballon doit aller, il tire quand il le faut, il passe quand les gens sont démarqués. Tous les joueurs aiment jouer avec lui. Il n’est pas comme un rookie, et encore moins comme un joueur de 21 ans. Il a un jeu très mature”.
