Ca y est notre saison se termine, ça faisait longtemps qu'on était pas sorti aussi tôt. C'est dommageable mais on vivra des moments meilleurs très bientôt !

En tous cas à 3-0 on était pas bien et la franchise de notre coeur nous aura fait vibré lors de game 4 et 5 et ce dernier quart temps ou l'on a cru quelques instants à un retour mythique. Même certaines défaites sont belles. Ce soir sans Sully, Barbouz, GTR, on peut être fier d'eux, ils ont donnés du coeur jusqu'au bout et ils méritent notre respect qu'ils auront pour toujours je pense.

Ce soir on sort la tête haute !

Je tenais à remercier tous les C's Fans du topic (Baz, Anonymento, Yoco, TheAnswer, AirBouboulle, Melkor, MintBerryCrunch, Chrys'Anthem, Charles9th, ...) on a vécu plusieurs soirées ensemble toute cette saison et ce fut fort sympathique mais ne vous inquiétez pas on va juste un break de 2 mois, puis on se retrouve pour la Draft, la Free Agency, les Summer League, la Pre Season et nouvelle longue et belle saison régulière plein de rebondissements.

Doc Rivers : « Je ne voulais pas que Kevin Garnett parte de cette manière »

Est-ce la fin de la route pour Kevin Garnett ? Quand on écoute Doc Rivers parler de son joueur, ça y ressemble en tout cas beaucoup.

« Je ne voulais vraiment pas qu’il termine comme ça sur notre terrain. Je ne voulais pas ça », explique le coach. « Nous avons perdu contre une meilleure équipe mais pour lui en particulier, je ne voulais pas qu’il sorte de cette manière. Mais c’est un winner. Il est le meilleur… que j’ai jamais vu. »

Doc Rivers admire notamment le courage de son pivot de 37 ans.
« Kevin a joué les playoffs sur une jambe et sans jouer (avant), il a été incroyable. C’est un dur, aussi dur que n’importe quel compétiteur que j’ai côtoyé. Il a pris des rebonds et fait tout ce qu’il pouvait pour cette équipe. »
Après cet hommage, un journaliste a demandé à Doc Rivers s’il pensait que Kevin Garnett allait arrêter.

« Non, je voulais dire cette saison », a précisé le coach.
Doc Rivers était peut-être dans l’émotion du moment. Ou peut-être que sa dernière précision sert juste à laisser KG annoncer lui-même son éventuel départ.

Mes ami(e)s,
en ce matin froid de Mai, nous pleurons. Nous ne pleurons pas devant une défaite car cela ne saurait pas juste envers ces joueurs qui ont tout donné de leurs corps et de leurs cœurs sans jamais abandonnés.
Nous ne pleurons pas non plus devant une fin de saison que beaucoup pressentaient proche car nos valeureux guerriers malgré leurs courage n'avait plus les armes pour lutter.
Nous pleurons ce matin car cette nuit la NBA est devenu peut être un peu moins coloré car le soupçon de folie verte que notre équipe apportait (la preuve en est faite que énormément de personne commençait a croire a un game 7, chose rarissime dans cette situation) a disparu pour au moins 5 longs mois.
Nous pleurons ce matin car certaines légendes de ce sport risque de quitter la scène trop vite comme c'est toujours le cas lorsque que les idoles que nous admirons rangent leurs baskets alors que la NBA semble encore avoir besoin de leurs présence.
Nous pleurons ce matin de fierté devant ce qui à été accompli et en attendant des jours meilleurs.
Merci a tous ceux qui ont participé de prés ou de loin a ce forum cette année car même si je ne participe que peu j'apprécie de lire les discussions

Last summer, in an effort to keep his aging team's window for contention open, Boston Celtics general manager Danny Ainge used his cap space to re-sign Kevin Garnett, replace departing free agent Ray Allen with the duo of Jason Terry and Courtney Lee and retain Jeff Green, who missed the 2011-12 season because of heart surgery.


Instead, the Celtics floundered in mediocrity both before and after the season's defining event -- Rajon Rondo's season-ending knee injury in January. Boston struggled to a 41-40 record and finished with a negative point differential.

During the season, Ainge attempted to paper over roster deficiencies and injury voids with a slew of acquisitions, none of which made an impact in the postseason. Boston entered the playoffs with no healthy point guard on the roster, and the Celtics failed to reach 80 points in three straight playoff games for the first time in franchise history. Garnett and aging team captain Paul Pierce could no longer carry the load, as Boston was swept out of the first round.

Here's the good and bad from the Celtics this season. But more importantly, what's next for them this offseason?

The Good

The defense: The Celtics finished in the league's top 10 in defensive efficiency for the sixth straight season, though its No. 7 finish was their lowest since Garnett joined the team in 2007. The defense was even passable in the playoffs but wasn't good enough to overcome Boston's offensive ineptitude.


Jeff Green's emergence: Green took advantage of Boston's spate of injuries to put together the best stretch of play of his career. He averaged 17.3 points after the All-Star break and emerged as a deadly outside shooter, knocking down 45.7 percent of his corner 3s for the season. Green's defense when playing small forward was much improved and established him as a worthy heir apparent to Pierce at the position.

Paul Pierce's consistency: In his 15th season, Pierce posted an individual winning percentage better than .600 for the third straight season and for the 13th time in his career. Pierce's playoff performance suggested that he should no longer be counted on to be the top player on a title team, but his overall record suggests he still has plenty left in the tank.

Jared Sullinger's toughness: Back issues caused Sullinger to slip to Boston in last June's draft and then cut short his rookie season. The upside is that the back problem should be fixed going forward and while Sullinger was on the court, he proved to be highly effective. Sullinger led Boston rotation players with 11.9 sorely needed rebounds per 40 minutes.

The Bad

The offense: The good news was that Boston's offensive improved. The bad news was that it was still pretty bad, ranking 20th in efficiency, four slots better than the 2011-12 version. The Celtics were an above-average shooting team, shared the ball well and protected the ball much better than last season. However, the lack of a standout category meant the attack was doomed by another putrid showing on the offensive glass.

Rebounding on both ends: For the third straight season, Boston finished last in offensive rebound percentage. That's somewhat of a philosophical preference for Rivers, but they weren't much better on the defensive boards, finishing 20th for the second straight season.

Kevin Garnett's decline: Garnett was solid and remained a key cog in Boston's good defensive effort, but he's no longer a primary offensive option. His 107.2 offensive rating matched last season's career low and Garnett posted his lowest WARP (Wins Above Replacement Player) and winning percentage since the first of his 18 NBA seasons.

A clogged salary cap: Depending on a couple of key offseason decisions, Ainge might be limited to mining the trade market to improve the Celtics for the 2013-14 season. Boston has 10 guaranteed salaries on the books, the No. 16 pick in the draft and Pierce has a sizable player option.

Summer decisions and questions

Will Pierce opt out?
All of Boston's offseason decisions are interrelated, and they begin with Pierce. He has a player option for $15.3 million for 2013-14, and, even if he exercises that, Ainge could cut bait by giving him a $5 million buyout. It's hard to imagine Pierce in another uniform after all these years, but if he goes, it signals a franchise reset.

Will KG head to the beach?
Garnett has two years left on the deal he signed last summer, the second of which is not fully guaranteed. After suffering through personal and team declines, will he care to play out those seasons? Garnett was adamant during the trade deadline, when he was the subject of quite a few rumors, that he would not play for another franchise. If that's true, then you figure he and Pierce are a package. Either both will be back or neither.

Should Ainge blow up the roster?

The answer to this is tied directly to the first two questions. Obviously, if Pierce opts out and Garnett retires, then it's time to go young. Rondo, Terry and Brandon Bass should all have some trade value, with Rondo in particular being good enough to bring back a package of draft picks and young assets. Ainge has promising young pieces in Green, Avery Bradley, Sullinger, Fab Melo and this summer's draft pick to develop while he goes in search of his next set of core players. The real question in a post-Garnett/Pierce scenario is whether Rondo will be the centerpiece Ainge builds around.

Who do the Celtics target at No. 16?
If Ainge is in reset mode, then he's going to be looking for the player with the biggest upside, regardless of position. If Garnett, Pierce & Co. return for another run, then Ainge needs to find a rim protector and rebounder. Chad Ford has Louisville's Gorgui Dieng ranked as his No. 15 prospect, right around where the Celtics will pick.

Prognosis
When Ainge brought Pierce, Garnett and Allen together in 2007, questions immediately arose of how long Boston's window for contention would be open. It now appears to be closed, but the five seasons prior to this one saw a championship, two Finals appearances, another trip to the conference finals and two additional trips to the second round. It's a five-year stretch any team would be glad to have.

That said, Ainge might have erred last summer when he had cap space and the chance to move on to the next generation of Celtics. Clearly, he thought that Pierce and Garnett had another deep run or two left in them. Some will point to Rondo's injury as undermining this season's playoff chances, but let's not forget that Boston was 20-23 before Rondo went down. Ainge might have also been biding his time until the super team in Miami breaks up, an approach which is paradoxically sensible and cynical at the same time.

Now, Ainge finds himself at a crossroads. Can he maintain the status quo when all indications are that this era of Celtics dominance has drawn to a close? Can he blow up the roster even if he wants to, given cap restrictions and the power his star players hold in the team's decision-making processes? This summer will be Ainge's biggest test as an NBA executive.

Saison terminée pour nous. Vous n'avez pas pu me voir beaucoup sur le forum cette saison car je suis arrivé environ au début de ces playoffs, mais c'était cool avec vous les C's fans et on revivra sans doute des éliminations comme celle-là, difficile, mais on est fan de Boston, donc on est sûr de revivre des moments magiques. Après notre incroyable comeback qui reflète l'esprit Celtics (ne jamais lâché, toujours y croire, solidarité, intensité...) on ne peut que sortir la tête haute. 5 mois sans matchs NBA mais on se retrouvera comme l'a dit plus haut KrisyBoy pour la draft, la summer league puis à nouveau la SR. Et puis je pense que cet été du côté de Boston ça devrait pas mal bouger, le dossier Pierce & KG va sans doute faire parler. Peu importe quand ils arrêteront, ces deux mecs là resteront des légendes vertes à tout jamais. Bonne vacance NBA à tous.

J'hésite entre les deux, mais j'ai vraiment envie de l'alternative vert et noir de Jeff Green, ou le classic vert et blanc de Pierce.
